Music in Liverpool

Music is a large part of the culture with innumerable places to visit in Liverpool to see live music. One of the most popular places to see is the Cavern Club, the bar where The Beatles performed regularly and which became their home venue. The bar attracts a huge amount of tourists but is still insanely popular with locals. A great spot to visit at any time of day, it’s more relaxed in the afternoon before the bands start. It makes for a perfect sit for a chat with friends over some drinks. In the evening there is always great live music, new acts, and tributes! Locals love the fact they can sit and do the same thing their grandparents did, in the same place, fifty years earlier.

On another note, the city was pivotal in England’s economic growth in the 1800s. The waterfront played a vital role in this regard and has been a World Heritage Site since 2004. The waterfront contained the world’s very first commercial port which facilitated trade with America. This led to Liverpool & England’s prosperity from the 1800s onwards. However, this prosperity came at a terrible cost. The slave trade, alongside the rise of luxury cruises, were factors in bringing previously untold wealth to the city. Indeed, Liverpool has an intriguing history that you can explore for yourself at the along the waterfront and at the many different museums.

The City & Architecture

The city is home to two enormous cathedrals that rise far above surrounding buildings, and you should take a look, at least from the outside. There are beaches and huge green spaces such as Sefton Park. The park is located just outside the center with plenty of space to run, cycle, sit and relax or explore. You can get there by walking up the famous street, Lark Lane. Lark Lane is extremely popular due to the many bars and proximity to the city center. Lark Lane is a great spot for a drink outside the city center. You can then get a short 5-minute taxi ride into the center to enjoy the famous nightlife!

Food in Liverpool

The food in England is probably better than you think, as it has an undeserved reputation. One of the best dishes you can try in Liverpool is Scouse. A delicious stew of lamb, potatoes, carrot, onion, and stock. It’s healthy, really tasty and perfect to warm you up on a cold day! Some other foods to try are the roast dinners (made on Sundays), large English breakfasts or even fish & chips.

A must on a list of things to do in Liverpool for sporting fans is visiting Anfield. It’s home to the extremely successful football team, Liverpool FC. To hear fans sing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ is a real treat. Being one of the most spine-tingling anthems in sport, it will make you a fervent supporter before the game even starts!

So, as you can see, it's next to impossible to be short on things to do in Liverpool.
