Originally built as a fortification in 1190, protecting the old city of Paris from foreign invaders, pillars, and thieves, the Louvre museum only became a royal palace in the 16th century, before being turned into a museum in the first half of the 19th century.
With over 7 million yearly visitors and 36.000 exposed artworks and other masterpieces, the Louvre is the most visited museum and holds the largest number of exposed works, of any museum in the world.[readmore]After meeting your host at the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel between the Pyramid of the Louvre and the Tuileries Gardens, you’ll be given an introduction concerning the Louvre’s history, after which you’ll get to skip the line with your group, via the secondary entrances of the Louvre.
Inside, your guide will leave you to visit the museum by yourself, allowing you to see some of the world’s most renowned artworks and historical relics - some of which are more than 3000 years old - at your own pace but not before having answered all your questions and helped out with taking pictures to make sure this visit will become one of the highlights of your stay in the City of Lights.
