What you'll do

Spice up your Tuscan holiday with local flavors! Tuscan culture, history, and character are all tightly linked to the unique flavors and cuisine. Our 4-hour Tuscany Cooking Tours will teach you to cook like a true Italian and so, connect with the local culture on a more personal level.

First, you will meet your tour escort at the designated meeting point in the center of Siena. Once everyone has checked in, our comfortable minibus will drive you to an authentic farm in the Chianti area where the class will take place. This is where you meet with the local chef who will teach you about the regional ingredients; how to select, use, and combine them to create simple yet flavorsome Tuscan dishes. You will learn how to prepare a typical bruschetta, homemade pici, and a myriad of crostini. When the cooking is done, you will enjoy the fruit of your work in the peace of the rural countryside.

Tuscany is rich in nature, history as well as flavors. Discovering the hidden corners of the region beyond its seductive cities is a fun way to learn about the little things shaping Tuscan character. The identity and of locals is strongly tied to the soil and the goods it produces.

Its cuisine is as old as the land itself. It dates back to the Etruscan civilization, travels through centuries and meets us in the present. Renaissance period was not only crucial to art but also to the evolution of Tuscan dishes. Chefs working for the noblemen were required to produce elaborate dishes which often influenced other Italian regions or even other European countries.

However, the true essence of Tuscan cuisine is simple. Its all about making the most of simple but fresh high-quality ingredients such as legumes, vegetables, cheeses, and fruits. However, don't be fooled by simplicity Tuscan food is incredibly rich in flavor, hearty, and filling.

Some traditions have deep historical roots. For instance, all local meals come accompanied by a white plain, unsalted loaf of bread. This habit dates to the 16th century when there was a heavy tax on salt so it was not accessible to all. Many find the bread flavorless. However, this ceases to be a problem when you realize its function, which is to soak up all the leftover juices from your meal. Many locals love to use this bread to fully indulge the pure flavor of the local virgin olive oil.

And this is just a story of the unsalted bread... Imagine the rest! But we will leave that to our local chef! Book one of our Tuscany Cooking Tours today and wake up the flavors inside you!
