Make your way to the stars and explore the universe at the Griffith Observatory, guided by this in-app audio tour. The narration gives context to the exhibits and architecture as you move through the building at your own pace.
The Griffith Observatory is one of LA's most beloved and recognised destinations. It is the most visited public observatory globally and has been one of Hollywood's favourite film locations, appearing in more than 300 major films including The Terminator, Charlie's Angels and La La Land. The audio commentary highlights these cultural links alongside scientific stories, bringing both Hollywood and astronomy to life.
The tour begins at the monument outside the Observatory and tells the stories of six of history's greatest astronomers. You will then enter the Keck Central Rotunda to admire the Hugo Ballin murals and hear how science and mythology have influenced one another. Move on to displays that explain how the Sun and Moon interact with Earth and, when available, enjoy a live broadcast of the Sun through the solar telescopes.
Descend to the lower levels to view meteorite exhibits, learn about the Apollo Moon landings and explore interactive displays that help you locate our place in the cosmos. Return to the Wilder Hall of the Eye to follow the evolution of astronomical instruments and, if conditions allow, get a close-up view of the Moon and planets through the 12-inch Zeiss refractor.
The route finishes on the Terrace, offering expansive panoramas of Los Angeles and the best vantage point for photographing the famous Hollywood Sign. There is also an option to attend a live show at the Samuel Oschin Planetarium theatre for an immersive presentation of the night sky.
The in-app audio guide helps you make the most of your visit with clear descriptions, suggested sequences and background stories for exhibits and people featured on the tour. Whether you are new to astronomy or a returning visitor, this self-paced experience blends history, science and spectacular views into an engaging visit that you can enjoy at your own speed.
