Yes, there are hop-on, hop-off buses in Geneva. These stop at several key locations in and around the city, such as the lakeside, UN headquarters and the Old Town, making them a convenient way to get around the city.

Hiring a boat on Lake Geneva, visiting the Parc des Bastions, which has numerous playgrounds and giant chess, the mini-train around the city, and many of the city’s child-friendly museums are all good options.

Visiting Lake Geneva, whether to go swimming in the summer or to have a walk around the shore during the winter, is a nice, budget-friendly activity for a city known for being expensive.

Transport options such as trains should be booked in advance to save money, but many attractions, such as visiting the Old Town or museums, do not need to be booked in advance.

Summer is the busiest time of year to visit, but the winter months, while colder, offer unrivalled winter scenery, especially of the snow-capped Alps overlooking Lake Geneva and surrounding the city. It can often be cheaper to visit in the winter, too.

Chamonix, Mont Blanc, Montreaux, Lausanne and Lyon are all good day trips from Geneva. The public transport network routes in Geneva are excellent, so even if you don’t plan on hiring a car, getting to these locations on public transport is very easy.
