Our classic puffin tours offer an intimate and enjoyable adventure on a small boat, providing a unique opportunity to observe puffins—the delightful "clowns of the sea"—in their natural habitat. Trips run from late April to mid-August when the birds are nesting and most active, giving visitors excellent chances to see feeding and social behaviour up close.
The tour visits one of three nearby islands—Engey, Akurey or Lundey—selected according to tides and conditions. We do not land on the islands; instead, experienced captains carefully navigate along the rocky shores so you can watch the puffins without disturbing their nesting areas. In addition to puffins, the islands host a variety of seabirds such as eider ducks, arctic terns, guillemots and cormorants, and there is often the possibility of spotting seals hauled out on the rocks.
Throughout the voyage, our knowledgeable crew share engaging facts and stories about the birds and the local environment. When conditions permit, the engines may be switched off so you can fully absorb the sounds and sights of the colonies. Departing just minutes from Reykjavík city centre, the tour offers a comfortable, memorable way to experience Icelandic wildlife and dramatic coastal scenery from a respectful distance.
